What it offers: From eagles and owls to parrots and pelicans, World Bird Sanctuary has been a haven for injured or sick birds for more than 30 years.

Located about 20 minutes outside of St. Louis, the sprawling 300-acre wilderness refuge nurtures and rehabilitates birds (many already classified as threatened) while educating the public about these fine-feathered creatures.

Groups of up to 25 people can reserve special one-hour guided tours of the non-profit sanctuary for a fee. However, self-guided tours are always free. Either option will put attendees within feet of both exotic and majestic birds that many people can go their whole lives without seeing.

Outdoor educational presentations for groups of up to 250 also are available. Naturalists can come to your event, too, along with a few of their feathered friends. Both experiences are available at an additional cost.
