The Arch. Budweiser. The Cardinals. Cute boutiques. Trendy restaurants.
Lots of things come to mind when someone mentions St. Louis, but until recently lavender farm wasn’t one of them for me.
The Lavender Farm of Winding Brook Estate
About 45 minutes outside of the city lies the lavender farm of Winding Brook Estates. Yes, you read right. A lavender farm. In fact, Winding Brook is the only commercial lavender farm in Missouri.
The 17-acre property is nestled next to a housing community and a golf course, but turning into the drive you immediately forget how close you are to civilization.
Instead, you’re simply transported “away” – to a place where the drone of cars is replaced by the drone of insects, where breezes whisper through tall grasses instead of whip through city corridors, and the babble of humanity is substituted with the gentle babble of a meandering brook.
What It Offers
The farm’s charming proprietress Deborah Nathe welcomes groups on a regular basis to an estate that has been in her family for decades.
Event planners are invited to book group lavender-picking, wreath-making, cooking or aromatherapy sessions as well as host lavender-themed teas, luncheons and private events either al fresco or in a rustic barn. (The lavender teas and brownies are a must-try!)

Lavender is typically in bloom from June to October, but call ahead to be sure. And, before you ask, lavender has been used throughout time for its stress-reducing, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory qualities!
