The "Father of Bluegrass," Bill Monroe, would have turned 100 next year. In honor of his life, the Owensboro-Daviess County Convention & Visitors Bureau is launching a very savvy, multi-year-long tourism campaign.
CVB officials have designed a series of festivals and events in celebration of Monroe's musical legacy. All will take place in or around Owensboro, Kentucky. A two-year-long art exhibit kicked off last month, but most of the events will take place in September of next year (the month of Monroe's birth).
In promotion of the festivities, the Owensboro-Daviess CVB has already created and launched a special website - BillMonroe100Birthday.com - where visitors can journey through Monroe's life (through words, images and events), purchase art inspired by his accomplishments, view a complete schedule of events, and more.
